Terms and Conditions
Effective Date: May 1, 2026
By using the services of Carat Works LLC ("we", "our", or "us"), you ("customer") agree to the following terms.
1. Nature of Services
Carat Works LLC provides jewelry repair, modification, and related services. Customers acknowledge that all services involve handling pre-owned and potentially delicate items.
2. Customer Responsibility & Item Condition
Customers are solely responsible for accurately disclosing the condition, materials, and any known issues with their items. We are not responsible for undisclosed defects, prior damage, or structural weaknesses.
3. Risk of Repair
Customer acknowledges and agrees that:
- Jewelry repair carries inherent risks
- Stones, settings, and materials may loosen, shift, crack, or break during the repair process
- Pre-existing wear, damage, or age may increase risk
By submitting an item, the customer accepts these risks.
4. Metal Loss During Service
For repairs and modifications (for example, resizing a ring down), portions of precious metals may be cut, reshaped, melted, and processed into very fine particles (such as filings, powder, or dust). In these cases, we cannot return the original metal material to you. This applies to similar handling across all of our jewelry services.
5. Stone & Material Disclaimer
We are not responsible for:
- Loss, damage, or alteration of stones due to pre-existing conditions
- Fragile, worn, or previously repaired settings
- Stones that are not properly secured at the time of intake
Customers are strongly encouraged to request documentation or verification prior to service.
6. Intake Documentation
We may document items (photos/videos/descriptions) at intake for internal records and dispute prevention. Such documentation shall be considered accurate evidence of item condition at the time of receipt.
7. Shipping & Delivery
All shipments arranged by Carat Works LLC may be insured at our discretion or as agreed with the customer. By proceeding with shipment, the customer agrees that the shipping carrier is solely responsible for handling any loss, damage, or delay during transit, and that claims must be filed with the carrier and will be processed according to the carrier's policies and timelines.
Once the item has been transferred to the shipping carrier and tracking has been issued, responsibility for the shipment passes to the carrier.
If the customer provides their own shipping label, the customer assumes full responsibility for shipping, including carrier selection, insurance coverage, and declared value.
Signature confirmation may be required upon delivery. Insurance coverage limits and claim outcomes are determined solely by the shipping carrier and may not reflect the full value of the item.
8. Payment Terms
- Full or partial payment may be required before service begins
- Deposits are non-refundable once work has started
- Final payment must be completed before item return
9. No Refund Policy
Due to the nature of services:
- All completed services are final
- No refunds will be issued once work is performed
In cases of dissatisfaction, we may offer adjustments at our discretion.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability is limited to the lesser of the amount paid for the service or the declared value of the item (if provided and accepted). We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
11. Declared Value
Customers may declare a value for their item at the time of service. Failure to declare value limits any claim strictly to the service cost.
12. Abandoned Property
Items not claimed within 90 days after completion may be considered abandoned. We reserve the right to dispose of or liquidate such items to recover costs, as permitted by law.
13. Fraud & Chargebacks
We actively monitor and document all transactions. Unauthorized chargebacks or fraudulent claims will be disputed with supporting evidence and may result in legal action.
14. Refusal of Service
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, including suspected fraud or unrealistic service expectations.
15. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
16. Modifications
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
